Relaxation in beautiful scenery in the middle of the heat

We rented the loft apartments completed in 2019 in Nea Hora, near the center of Chania, Crete, for the use of VR employees and pensioners.

The object can be booked from 6 April to 26 October 2024

The house is located near the old town. There is also a fine sand beach with beach restaurants and other services nearby.

Finnish landlady Johanna Litmo welcomes you and guides you in all matters:

  • You can order pickup from the field through Johanna (Johanna Litmo +30 6983035088).
  • Johanna helps with making reservations if necessary (car rental, etc.).
  • Johanna's family's shop is in the building next door and the family lives above the holiday home, so help is always close by.

Surroundings
  • The house is located in the middle of a peaceful local settlement.

  • The adjacent five-star beach with fine sand is 200m away. There are cafes and taverns on the beach, which are known for their fish dishes.

  • The landlady has a grocery store in the building next door.

  • The center of Chania and the Venetian harbor are approx. 600m.

This is how you travel to the destination
  • During the summer season, there are direct flights from Helsinki to Hania with both Finnair and Norwegian, the distance from the airport to the destination is approx. 14.5 km.

  • You can order transport from the field to the destination from the landlady (Johanna Litmo +30 6983035088).

  • There are regular buses from the airport.

  • You can easily get there by car. There is one parking lot in front of the house where you can park for free.
What can be done at the resort

Crete is the fifth largest island in the Mediterranean, where three continents and five seas meet. The length of the island is about 250 km and the width varies between 15-60 km, the area is about 8300 km2. Crete has several mountain peaks rising to more than 2000 meters, the highest of which is Psiloritis 2456m. There are about 620,000 inhabitants on the island, the largest cities are Heraklion (the capital), Chania and Rethymnon.

  • In Chania, you can walk around the winding alleys and the horseshoe-shaped harbor area. You can visit boutiques, trendy cafes, taverns, fish restaurants and market squares. History is told by the Turkish Janitschar Mosque and the Venetian-style fortress from the 16th century. Hania's market hall, completed in 1911, is an affordable and interesting place to enjoy lunch. The Maritime Museum and the Archaeological Museum are located on the edge of the old town.
  • If you want something to do on the beach, you can try several water sports, such as jet skiing, parasailing and water rafting. For those longing for the depths, diving or snorkeling is available.
  • There is a street market/market in Nea Hora on Thursdays.
  • The water park Limnoupolis is located 8 km from Chania, near the road leading to the Omalos plain (Samaria gorge), near the village of Variopetro. Next to the water park, there is also a large microcar track, Pista Park, for those hungry for speed.
  • Driving in the direction of Omalos, you will find the Botanical Park, a great arboretum where even children can enjoy themselves. Wear good shoes, the park is located on a slope.
  • Nostos winery is a short drive away.
  • The city of Chania offers popular bike tours that the whole family can participate in.
  • The island of Ágioi Theódoroi is located a little west of Chania in front of Agia Marina. This rocky island is home to the endangered kri-kri goats, where they are allowed to graze on the hillsides in peace without human disturbance. There are boat trips around the island, where you stop to snorkel on the south side of the island. There is a sunken German Messerschmitt Bf 109 fighter plane at the bottom, which was shot down during the Second World War in 1941. Today it is quite a popular snorkeling and diving destination, as it is easily visible in the clear water at a depth of a few meters. If you happen to be in Crete on June 8, that is the only day of the year when you can go ashore to the island.
  • For those who long for a peaceful way of life, Paleohora is the perfect place to get to know. Paleohora is located south of Chania on the African coast of the island of Crete. To get there, you have to cross the mountains of Crete by driving scenic routes, but there you will find a beautiful little sleepy town where nobody is in a hurry.
  • Knossos Palace is an important Minoan palace and the first palace in Europe. Located near the city of Heraklion in the central part of Crete, the palace complex is one of the most popular attractions in Crete and the most significant Bronze Age archaeological site in Crete. It's about an hour's drive from Hania.
  • Crete is also known for its many hiking trails, especially the E4 European Footpath. Located in the western part of Crete, the Samaria Gorge is the largest in Europe and is a popular place to hike or otherwise hang out. The gorge is located in the Samaria National Park, and the path that runs there is about 16 kilometers long. Many rare Cretan plants and animals can be found in the Samaria Gorge.
  • According to legend, the supreme god Zeus was born and grew up in Crete. He was born on the Lasithi plateau in the cave of Mount Dikti, which is one of the most visited caves in Crete.
  • Arkadi Monastery from the 16th century is about 25 kilometers southeast of the city of Réthymno.
  • Vai is one of the most popular excursion destinations in Crete, as the area's handsome palm forest is one of the largest in Europe. The Rann Palms are also the only native palms in Europe.
  • You can go on a day trip to the desert island of Spinalonga. The island has a chilling past as a place of isolation for leprosy patients. The area also has a small beach and the ruins of a Venetian fortress.
